What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

After graduating with an MSci in Natural Sciences, I joined BT Group’s graduate programme in September 2021 and moved into an Applied Researcher role. My first project at BT ended up taking off, and with the backing of a great manager, resulted in me leading a cross-functional team of engineers developing BT’s first Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) system — an ultra-low-energy, next-generation technology that dynamically routes wireless signals around environmental obstacles. Along the way, I had the chance to work with some brilliant colleagues, together we filed nine patents, spanning from 3D-printable semiconductors to a PCB-based magnetic cooling system.

Currently, I work as a Data Scientist or AI/ML Research Specialist leading BT’s AI-Native infrastructure research thread (team of 5 specialists), delivering strategic proof-of-concepts and technical assessments covering AI-native network architecture, optimization, and AI service monetisation opportunities.
