What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

After I graduated, I spent 3 years doing HMRC’s graduate scheme, called the Tax Specialist Programme, qualifying last year. I am now a Grade 7 corporation tax specialist in the banking and asset management team.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I chose this job because I wanted the job security and pension that comes from doing a civil service graduate scheme. I enjoy the work life balance my role provides and the mix of people I work with.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

History society president, choir, lacrosse.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

Getting involved with my academic society and winning an award for it at the SU awards.

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

My small cohort size meaning that all my academics knew me by name.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

Good vibes on the open day.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Networking, negotiating, writing concisely, reading, public speaking are the key ones.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Get involved with the students union – taking on a representative role gives you crucial advocating and negotiating skills.
