What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
Since completing my MSc I have been a full time employee of the University of Exeter, working on developing and growing its Green Futures Solutions initiative.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
This was a career change for me. Previously to doing an MSc at Exeter, I worked in consulting for 10 years. I am still technically in consulting, though now doing it through a very different lens. I chose to pivot my career in this direction as I wanted my day to day work to have an impact and I wanted to play my part in helping to tackle climate change.
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
The variety of topics that were taught on the MSc was great. There was a lot of diversity and it allowed you to explore areas that were of interest to you. My dissertation was the biggest highlight.
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
I found the Professors very easy to learn new skills from and the campus is a lovely place to study.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
At the time, it offered the type of course I was looking for.
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
One of the most important skills of a consultant is being able to talk to anyone about anything. Feeling confident when meeting new people and talking in front of people you don’t understand. Gaining as much experience in this whilst at University (through presentations etc) will be valuable.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Network as much as you can. Build your LinkedIn profile as early as possible and reach out to people through that platform who are currently working in an industry you are keen to get into. Most people will spare the time to talk to you and give you specific advice.
What are your plans for the future?
I never tend to look too far into the future and keep all doors open. Currently though, it’s my ambition to continue to grown Green Futures Solutions at the University of Exeter.
