What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

After completing my PhD I worked in several roles primarily focusing on Image Analysis, from medical research in a biotech startup to satellite imagery for an Earth Observation company. After these roles I worked for a Software consultancy firm to gain more commercial experience before taking my first C level role as CTO of a health tech. Finally, over the last 2 years I have been founder and CEO of my own start up working in EdTech.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I first started software engineering and data science during my PhD and it has had a direct impact on the career I have chosen to follow.

What I enjoy most about my current work is the excitement of the start up environment and every day providing a new challenge.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

The variety within it. Before coming to Exeter I had no idea of the breadth of biochemistry, there is so much out there to learn about.

My favourite aspect of the degree was the final year research project. I was tasked with investigating a proposed molecular mechanism which may enable night migratory songbirds to detect the Earth’s geomagnetic field and use it to assist with navigation.
