What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
I have been developing my clinical career and using the knowledge and skills gained in my Advanced Clinical Practice MSc in my day-to-day work as a Radiographer Sonographer, carrying out image-guided interventional procedures.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
I knew I wanted to pursue a career working clinically with patients – I discovered Radiography accidentally when working as a hospital porter. I enjoy the mix of working with cutting edge technology and incredible imaging equipment, while providing direct patient care. I also enjoy being a detective and having to put lots of bits of information from the patient – their other test results and their clinical history – and using it to help put forward an idea for a diagnosis.
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
Studying with a wide range of clinical professionals in my cohort – we were able to each bring different strengths to our student group. The biggest highlight was passing my exam and celebrating with my family and departmental leads at graduation.
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
Good study resources and clinical skills labs. The campus days were probably what I enjoyed most.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
Close to home and offered a degree apprenticeship which is an accredited ACP course.
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
My ability to evidence that I fulfil the 4 pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Expect to work hard and overcome challenges. Ensure you have departmental support and a clear job plan for the end of your course.
What are your plans for the future?
I aspire to undertake a PhD and to become a Consultant Radiographer, and to continue to develop my expertise in image guided procedures.
