What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
Since leaving Exeter, I’ve been working across games and business development — helping creative companies design better experiences and build sustainable business models around them. I founded Web Wise Media in 2010, creating websites and supporting clients with digital marketing and online strategy. During lockdown, I co-founded The Detective Society, producing immersive mystery games that blend storytelling, puzzles, and physical design. These days, I provide mentoring and consultancy in game design, web design, and entrepreneurship.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
I’ve always been passionate about entrepreneurship, games, immersive experiences, and technology. My career brings all those together — I get to help people turn creative ideas into something real and sustainable. What I enjoy most is that mix of creativity and problem-solving: working with others to make cool things that actually work in the real world.
Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?
Football, Drama/Theatre (EUTCO, Theatre with teeth)
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
My degree helped me to understand the arts management and business practicalities of the creative world. I made a lot of friends for life, and fell in love with Exeter and Devon as place too!
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
Devon and Exeter is a lovely part of the country. Exeter grounds too – beautiful! I made a lot of friends for life there.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
I wanted to be near the countryside but retain a city-feel. I wanted to be in the South West because of the wonderful scenery and coast. I loved the Exeter grounds and campus.
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
Arts management. It’s all very well coming up with a cool idea for a show or experience, but if you can’t make it work financially and sustainably it is very hard to get things off the ground. My degree helped me to realise that you can “just do stuff” and make things happen.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Say yes to as much as possible and absorb experience like a sponge. A bursting portfolio trumps a dry CV every time… Start making stuff and never stop!
What are your plans for the future?
Continue making games and helping others to make games.
