What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I did my foundation doctor training in Bath, then moved back to Devon (I met my now fiancé in my final year at Exeter Medical School) where I work both in Oncology and General Practice. I’m currently planning a wedding and balancing work and all the fun things Devon has to offer!

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I honestly chose it because I initially had a scholarship to do engineering at another top uni but realised I wasn’t a physics fan and my mum suggested medicine, given I like people and had done sciences at A-levels. She convinced me it would open doors for me and there would be more options than ‘just being a doctor’ and she was right! My week is varied greatly; I work clinically in general practice and oncology but also examine at the medical school; I teach on a leadership course; I’ve co-authored a book and I’m also trying to build a property portfolio with my fiancé. In terms of my work, I think it’s one of the few careers where you have a significant role in impacting someone else’s life!

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

Medic Netball and MedSoc as Charity Secretary.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

The wonderful friends I made!

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

Exploring Devon and meeting amazing people.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

Some friends in the years above me from school had gone and had wonderful things to say about it!

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

My degree was pretty tailored to my day to day now but nothing I’m still learning as I go.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

It’s an ever changing industry and like any career, there are good points and low points and you have to be resilient to get through it.

What are your plans for the future?

Continue doing a job I love.
