What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
After completing my PhD at the University of Exeter, I undertook my first postdoctoral position at the University of Warwick, followed by a second postdoctoral role at the University of Plymouth. I then joined the Marine Biological Association (MBA), where I spent five years working as a Microscopy Manager and Research Assistant. Since 2025, I am working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at MBA.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
I chose to become a marine scientist because I am a passionate molecular biologist with a strong foundation in marine diatoms, agriculture, and microbiology. Driven by curiosity, research questions continually inspire me. I’m enthusiastic about marine science and committed to applying my molecular biology and plant science expertise to advance marine research. My skills include genetic transformation, CRISPR/Cas9, vector construction, qRT‑PCR, fluorescence imaging, and diverse molecular and bioimaging techniques. I thrive in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments.
Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?
I will never forget my four years at the University of Exeter. It was my first time in the UK, and those memories still make me feel nostalgic whenever I return. I fondly remember my first Christmas celebration organised by the university for international students, as well as our trips to Oxford, Bath, and Stonehenge. Exeter gave me confidence, knowledge, and experiences that shaped both my career and who I am today.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
I’m always happy to guide students who are interested in building a career in science.
