What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I did a Masters in child development and worked with some children and families, then did an advanced diploma in counselling/talk therapy.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I always knew from early on I wanted to work with people in some sort of helping role. Seeing clients whether that be children or adults progressing and prioritising their mental health is so rewarding and I thoroughly enjoy it. Often, when I first meet people they are struggling badly, in comparison when I say goodbye their quality of life has shifted and it’s wonderful to be a part of that.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

I was part of the Psychology Society.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

I loved the variety of modules, learning such a broad variety of areas. The biggest highlight was probably graduation!

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

I loved the campus, people, and teachers.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

It was a change of scene to London. I loved the campus and Exeter had a good reputation for my course.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Getting things wrong or not perfect! You learn so much by just trying it and then trying something else. But also connecting with others in the field that can advise and share insights.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

I would say there’s no rush, life experience can be very useful with my career. Have some therapy yourself, get some experience in other areas because you can train in therapy at any point!

What are your plans for the future?

I will probably work more with couples and families and perhaps set up a clinic.
