What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

Since leaving Exeter, I lived and worked on Vancouver Island in Canada. Following that, for the past three years, I have been living in London and working in the Anti-Trafficking and Modern Slavery sector.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

My passion for anti-trafficking sparked whilst I was a student at the University of Exeter, at a Church service. I had always imagined that, following my degree, I would go in policing but the talk I listened to from someone who worked at another anti-trafficking charity changed that trajectory. It broke my heart to hear about how people fall victim to exploitation in the many forms that modern slavery takes and I knew that I wanted to do something about it. In my current role, I love being able to help survivors access a wide range of specialist support which enables them to begin to rebuild their lives.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

– Swimming
– Surf

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

The biggest highlight was my study abroad year at the University of Ottawa. I also loved volunteering at a charity that works in HMP Exeter.

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

– Lifelong friendships
– Being near nature – sea and Dartmoor

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

– Loved the campus (and how green it was!)
– Being able to study Criminology – including data science

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Volunteering at a charity in HMP Exeter was really useful during my time at Exeter. I have been into a lot of prisons with my current role and have trained prison officers in modern slavery too

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Do it!

What are your plans for the future?

I am in London for the foreseeable. I always want to be involved in the anti-trafficking and modern slavery sector.
