What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I have been employed at Phillips and have been volunteering with charities and art foundations to gain experience in auctioneering. I completed a master’s degree in Photography and Curation at the London College of Communication.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

My interest in Contemporary art and Photography has always been strong, and I was certain that I wanted to assist in the movement and circulation of contemporary art in London. As a result, my work provides me the opportunity to view art that remains hidden from public view, residing solely in private homes and collections. I have the opportunity to participate in significant discussions and events within the art market, while working alongside a team of individuals who share similar interests.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

I was part of Wine Society, Film Society, and Art Society.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

The thing I enjoyed most about my program was the variety of topics you could study in each module. I enjoyed studying more alternative topics in Art History and learning beyond traditional boundaries of an Art History course.

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

I appreciated the sense of community cultivated in Art History & Visual Culture, as well as the university’s coastal aesthetic. I appreciated the diversity of societies and the enthusiasm demonstrated by Exeter students in connecting with new individuals and participating in university life.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

My decision to pursue studies at the University of Exeter was motivated by the opportunities presented by the Art History & Visual Culture curriculum, in addition to the welcoming and aesthetically pleasing campus environment.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

The title of my degree and the expansion of my learning boundaries to ‘Visual Culture’ have been a fantastic addition to my skill set in the art world. It not only enables me to think creatively in my daily work, but it has also made me stand out as an applicant.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

I recommend going all out while still a student. Volunteer, apply to programs, and write articles. Learn as much as you can about your field of interest and create a portfolio that demonstrates both your expertise and your depth of interest. Consider what skills are required for your dream role and how you can acquire them in your own way.

What are your plans for the future?

I am working part-time in the auction industry while also developing a curatorial portfolio. I am moving into creative event management and working with contemporary artists and photographers who want to put on a show in London or transition from commercial to artistic careers. I’m entering the world of critics, and Thames & Hudson will publish an excerpt this year. I’m joining ‘Studio MAIDH’, a photography collective, to help them raise funds and organise creative events.

I love how intensive the course is. You really learn and improve so much by having classes four or five days a week. The department regularly hosts lectures, seminars and workshops so there’s always an opportunity to further your practice by taking part in these opportunities.
