What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I worked as a Genetic Technologist throughout my time studying Genomic Medicine at Exeter. I have continued in this role.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I chose to become a Genetic Technologist because I’ve always been fascinated by how our DNA influences health and disease. I enjoy the variety in my role – from technical laboratory work and problem solving to using cutting edge technologies like whole genome sequencing. There’s also a strong analytical element, from data interpretation to report generation. Above all, I’m motivated by the knowledge that the results we produce can genuinely change the lives of patients and their families by helping to diagnose rare and complex conditions.
