What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
Since graduating in 2022, I have been working in the Unscripted TV industry. I began as a Researcher and now I’m an Assistant Producer.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
Every day is different, every day is exciting. I love being creative and seeing my ideas come to life on screen. As a freelancer, you have a lot of freedom and your job changes so you’re constantly meeting new people, working on new jobs, and becoming an expert in new topics.
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
I loved the lecturers, they were so inspiring. I loved getting to watch films and TV shows as part of my degree – how fun is that?!
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
The people. I’ve made friends for life.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
The campus – it was so beautiful and green.
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
My degree taught me about the TV industry, even if it was somewhat indirectly. It just meant I felt confident talking about channels, genres, and programming going into my first industry interviews.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Really try to understand the industry and speak to lecturers who have that industry experience. A lot of the course is very analysis heavy and not too practical, so really lean into the practical modules.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m in my dream industry, so I want to just keep climbing the ladder and hopefully end up as an Executive Producer or Commissioner one day.
