Lewis Lane
Current Employer/Organisation Name
RBS International.
What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
Following my masters, I joined the Commercial Banking NatWest Graduate Scheme in Bristol for two years. I then rolled off the scheme where I was an Innovation Scout for three years looking to build experiments and partnerships across horizon technologies, including blockchain, digital assets and cloud. I have recently moved across to the international subsidiary of NatWest Group (RBS International) where I am continuing to build digital asset strategies for the bank, as well as help to Pilot a Chat-GPT trained model and understand use cases with colleagues over the next few months.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
It was an opportunity to influence and develop large scale projects in an industry that is under lots of competitive, customer and regulatory pressure. Always lots to consider, and slow projects down!
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
Going to Milan on the Erasmus programme, and studying interesting modules such as FinTech transformation.
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
The campus and the quality of teaching including some highly varied modules.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
Campus, Russell Group and I like the South West!
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
Module content and practical knowledge from different styles of examinations.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Send out the applications, find your ‘Why’ and speak to as many people as possible.
What are your plans for the future?
Stay in my role for a couple years, then maybe look to transition into energy as it is a regulated industry too.
