What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I moved to Google Ireland (Dublin) directly after graduating in 2022 where I’ve worked since. I’ve been working in the Google AdMob sales team as a Solutions Engineer – a role somewhere between Software Engineering and Sales. I’ve been upskilling myself in the world of mobile digital advertising, and meeting clients all around Europe.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I always enjoyed coding somewhat, but ultimately felt like it wasn’t what I wanted to build my career around. During university I was a Director for Hatless Studios, a student-led software development consultancy founded at the University of Exeter. My experience at Hatless taught me that I enjoyed B2B projects and supporting customers, so the role of “Solutions Engineer” felt like a perfect fit for me.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

I was on committee for Exeter Entrepreneurs Society, and was a member of the Computer Science Society.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

I enjoyed the Industrial Placement a lot – I loved the practical, hands-on experience. I also found myself enjoying the dissertation too.

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

Meeting amazing, driven, entrepreneurial people.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

The fact that it’s in the beautiful South West of England (where I’m also from), the green campus, and the fact that it ranks decently in the rankings for Computer Science.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Programming and an ability to speak confidently to both businesspeople and developers.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Say yes. Reach out to people, even if it’s awkward. Accept when people offer support or opportunities. Improve your ability to identify life-changing opportunities, then take them.

What are your plans for the future?

No idea! I’d like to move back to the UK at some point. I’m enjoying my time at Google, and transferring within the company is relatively easy, so perhaps a move to London might make sense.
