What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

After leaving Exeter, I looked out for my dream job in the sustainability sector and applied to a couple of jobs for roughly 5 months until I found my current employer, Impact Strategies, and signed the contract with them.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

Ever since halfway through my Bachelors (after a lecture about Climate Tipping Points), I knew I wanted to be part of the solution for climate change and not part of the problem. I started to brainstorm where I could have the biggest impact and chose the consulting business. The best part about my work is that I never stop learning. It is a fast changing business and many regulations have been changed especially in the past two years. That’s why I always have to be on my toes and stretch to be up to date and expand my knowledge.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

My course mates and the lecturers! We were like a big family fighting together for a better world. I could name many things as my biggest highlight like the excursion to the Eden Project or other ones. But the biggest highlight was just the day-to-day life with two of my course mates in the same flat and the entire studying experience in Exeter in general with our course.

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

The city is perfect for studying there, not too big, not too small. Beautifully located close to the sea, nature and London. Living on the beautiful Streatham campus in Spreytonway was definitely a highlight with the beautiful view over Exeter!

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

I wanted to study in the UK and Exeter had a program which seemed to be designed especially for me and what I wanted to learn, the program was just perfect! Furthermore, Exeter has some of the best sustainability/ environmental scientists, which was a big factor in the decision as well.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

English language, carbon accounting, communication skills in general, and writing skills for official documents (the exams were very practical)

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Take the opportunity to do an internship seriously, it’s the entrance to the working world and if you choose and end up with a company you’d like to work with in the future, chances are high that they might take you after your masters. If you want to start working right away after the program, start applying early (beginning of the last calendar year of your studies).

What are your plans for the future?

I am planning to stay in the sustainability sector. My plan is to work from a different country than Germany in the next three years.
