Nathan Guerriero
Current Employer/Organisation Name
Taylor Wessing
What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
Worked as a paralegal, completed my Master of Laws at the LSE, completed the SQE. Now I’ve started my training contract in the Patents team at Taylor Wessing.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
It combined features of my study which I knew would suit me. I always wanted to work within the intellectual property space so a firm like Taylor Wessing was perfect for that. I love the amount of autonomy I get in my work even at trainee level and it’s great to be involved on so many exciting deals where I can expand my skillsets continuously.
Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?
I ran the Law Society with my fantastic committee! Many of which continue to be longstanding friendships now in the City.
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
The faculty was amazing and I loved the law school. Great module diversity and a lot to get involved with that was adjacent to law. Felt nice that all the big firms would make the time to come down to see us.
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
The atmosphere and friends I made. The campus is gorgeous too.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
I’ve always lived in cities so I knew that for my three years of undergrad, I wanted to experience something I probably wouldn’t if I ended up working back in London again. I knew the course was great too. It combined many factors I was looking for.
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
General communication and organisation which I developed through my degree and extra-curriculars. Networking and building those connections with people have been great for integrating into a workplace in a client-focussed industry as well.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Just go for it. Rejection is going to crush you but realistically speaking, you only need one chance and you’re set. Empower yourself and never look back!
What are your plans for the future?
See where the legal career goes. I think I’ve done so much planning to get to this point I want to rest on my laurels a bit and just enjoy the ride for now as I get some fantastic training and take advantage of opportunities that arise.
