What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
Working in nutrition science, research and science communications roles for the food industry, including roles across medical nutrition, infant nutrition and sports nutrition.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
It allows me to apply my knowledge and skills in a practical way, and work with exciting brands to deliver a real impact on health and nutrition.
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
The combination of practical lab based work and scientific theory.
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
Superb quality of education, great university facilities, unique culture on St. Luke’s Campus and wonderful place to live.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
I fell in love with St Luke’s and with the West Country, plus the Uni was (and still is) highly regarded from an academic perspective (Russel Group).
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
The number one skill I have found isn’t just the academic knowledge, it is the ability to apply knowledge across different topics, think strategically, and critically, and communicate effectively.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Academic performance is a baseline, the soft skills are what matters. Get involved in as much as possible outside of your course to develop a wider range of skills, particularly working in teams, problem solving and communication.
What are your plans for the future?
Unsure – I am loving my work but I may look to pursue further part time academic qualifications to complement my career. I will likely continue to work in scientific roles within industry.
