What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

After Exeter, I completed a masters in Economics and Policy of Energy and Environment at UCL. I then worked at BNP Paribas for one year in London, on their Global Markets Graduate Scheme. After a year of that, I found a job in Frankfurt, where I finance renewable energy projects in Balkans, Caucasus, MENA and Ukraine. The fund is around EUR 1bn in size, and is a mix between a development and private finance institution.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I wanted to work in renewables since I wrote my dissertation on the topic at Exeter (specifically on how different MENA countries were using the technology for political objectives). The year at BNP I didnt really cover the sector, which I found frustrating which is why I moved to the new company.

I like how everyday I genuinely learn something different. I have to know about the legal aspect, the engineering, the financing, and the geopolitics of the countries where we operate / where our equipment comes from. The job is challenging, and I often feel out of my depth, but that means there is lots to learn which I find exciting. I like how my work results in tangible green energy projects in countries that need such projects the most.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

I was part of surf club. I loved my time at Exeter, my advice would be to appreciate it!

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

My programme was genuinely awesome. I walked away after 4 years fluent in a new language and with a deep understanding and appreciation in the MENA region. I have so many happy memories of the course, from being part of a tight-knight small class of amazing individuals, to the inspiring lecturers. The highlight was of course the year in Jordan, which I can safely say was the best year of my life to date!

What did you enjoy most about studying here?

Being part of a small class was definitely a benefit. I loved the range of modules on offer and the passion from the lecturers.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

The course (and the fact that Exeter is close to the UKs best surf!)
