What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I went straight into my first PR role post-university, less than a month after handing in my dissertation. Starting out in a boutique agency over in West London, I’ve since moved into a bigger agency called Harvard, focused on B2B technology communications.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I had more of an interest in marketing at university as the publicity secretary of the boxing club, but soon discovered PR and what it entailed – honestly, it just sounded fun, so I thought I’d try my hand at it.

My work is very people-focused which I love – working in a team and managing relationships with both journalists and clients. There’s never a dull day!

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

I was part of the University of Exeter Amateur Boxing Club.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

I enjoyed the range of areas to explore. I loved my module on African American History.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Writing, for sure. The ability to read between the lines is super important in any career too.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Get stuck in. Look for internship roles, work experience, get in touch with people in your network – even if you only ever had one fleeting chat.

What are your plans for the future?

Work my way up in PR.
