What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

Since finishing my Master’s at Exeter, I have been developing my career in corporate sustainability. After completing my dissertation, I was offered a 10-week graduate role at ITV exploring climate-related risks and building a bespoke methodology for quantifying advertising revenue at risk to the climate transition. Through this project I was able to move into a permanent role as Sustainability Analyst, supporting on climate risk analysis, greenhouse gas accounting and annual reporting, alongside aiding the publishing of ITV’s Climate Transition Plan. Moving into 2025, I have been leading on employee engagement for climate action (including running a panel on the iconic Love Island x eBay partnership), on-screen climate content, and ITV’s annual CDP disclosure.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I’ve always been fascinated by the corporate world and curious about whether purpose-led roles could truly exist within large global businesses. When the opportunity at ITV came up and I met the Social Purpose team, it felt like the perfect fit. The sense of fulfilment I get from my role is awesome, and it’s clear that the C-Suite is genuinely committed to sustainability – not just to ensure ITV’s survival, but to help it genuinely thrive in a low-carbon future. As a public service broadcaster, our mission is to shape and reflect culture for good. This purpose is deeply embedded into everything ITV produces and commissions, and it’s both inspiring and energising to play a key role in driving that forward.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

In terms of course content, I really enjoyed learning about the policy landscape within the Innovation and the Science-Policy Interface module, particularly the group work aspect of creating a report on a new policy proposal. I also gained valuable business knowledge from the CSR and Sustainable Tourism modules. But candidly, one of the most enjoyable parts of the course was meeting the variety of people that shared the same passion for understanding and communicating the climate/nature crisis and its solutions.

What did you most enjoy about studying here?

Exeter is a beautiful city. I enjoyed it so much I stayed for 4 years before leaving to get a job! The campus is stunning and I always felt welcome wherever I went. It’s a place that will always be close to my heart, due to the opportunities it has given me and the relationships I developed there.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

I had ‘that feeling’ when I viewed the campus… that’s it really! I was sold by the greenery and the walkability. I also felt that the lecturers were most accommodating when I came on an open day, and it just felt right.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Digesting and communicating climate science and policy, confidence, public speaking and presentations, creativity, teamwork.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Reach out to people on LinkedIn, spark conversations with people in careers that you would like to know more about… it doesn’t hurt to reach out. Don’t let the relentless job search or rejections get you down – you have the passion and the knowledge!

What are your plans for the future?

At ITV, I hope to continue to produce meaningful research and insights to inform sustainability work and carry on inspiring employees across the organisation. The influence that ITV has in terms of behaviour change is something that can be harnessed to create effective solutions to the climate crisis, and I’m so grateful that the GSS MSc course has given me the foundations to support that progress.
