Xi Jin
Current Employer/Organisation Name
Allegis Group
What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
After leaving Exeter I cam back to my hometown and looked for opportunities. Then I joined the Allegis Group China. Now, I am Associate General Counsel supporting China and Japan business.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
In this position, I experienced how to work as a legal professional, how to build a daily risk management mechanism from the perspective of corporate governance, internal systems, and risk prevention, to contribute to business operations and create value.
What did you enjoy most about studying here?
As a overseas student, studying in Exeter was totally different. It was a major decision I made in my life. The year in the UK was a year when I really made a goal and achieved the set goals alone. I learned to think independently and cultivated the ability to solve problems.
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
First of all, as a legal professional, I believe that one should always do the right thing. Secondly, thinking in depth, paying attention to details, and being the problem solver.
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
One should be a business partner not not a legal advisor, what we need to give is not only legal and compliance professional advice, but also commercially feasible solutions. Go hand in hand with the business team to escort the company. We are comrades-in-arms on the same battlefield and the closest partners.
