What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I completed a Masters degree at UCL in European Politics and Policy, while applying for jobs in the Civil Service with the help of a mentor through the University of Exeter’s Career Mentor Scheme. I have now secured a role in the Enforcement Team in the Private Rented Sector Division of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I chose this career because I wanted to do work that felt important and that would make a difference to people’s lives. I particularly enjoy arranging consultations with external stakeholders.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

The year abroad was a massive highlight because I had been dreading it since I enrolled but it turned out to be the best year of my life!

What did you enjoy most about studying here?

The lovely lecturers and the city itself.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

Its reputation and location (not too far from home, but far enough)!

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

The Career Mentor Scheme really helped me to understand what employers from the Civil Service are looking for in applications. The Exeter Award also allowed me gain confidence in interviews.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Perfect the Civil Service ‘behaviours’ and apply for as many roles as possible.

What are your plans for the future?

Continue to progress through the Civil Service.
