Can you give us an overview of what you have done since you completed your research degree?

I established an institute which is still in its first phase; Middle East Institute for Democratic Developments, MEIDD. The website: www.meidd.org

How did you become interested in the area you work in?

I had previously worked in this field for several years.

How did you find opportunities in the area you work in and how did the recruitment process work?

I am still self employed contributing with the media, mostly Kurdish and Farsi tv channels such as BBC Persian and the VOA. I also provide reports for solicitors as a country expert. My profile on EIN: https://www.ein.org.uk/experts/seyedi

What does your current role involve?

Providing analysis of current affairs in Iran and Iraq and Turkey. Preparing updated information regarding socio- political conditions in the above countries for immigration solicitors.

What skills are involved in your work and how did your research degree help develop them?

Both theoretical knowledge and every day information.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Being updated about the current situation.

What are the challenges in your role?

Lack of job security.

What has surprised you about your role?

It covers a variety of areas but at the same time it is difficult to secure a permanent job.

Did you engage in any additional activities or roles (i.e. organising conferences, entering PGR showcase, being a PGR Rep etc.) during your research degree, and how did these help prepare you for a career beyond academia?

No.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

A mixture of personal knowledge and academic experience.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Trying to get a job before graduation.

What are your plans for the future?

Applying for any position while developing my own business as a self employed.
