Since I left UoE I found a job of my dream in water utility. As I had previously a mature experience I applied for the senior role for several utility companies and finally I’ve got a proposal to have an interview with Thames Water. I did my best and now I am doing hydraulic modelling studies for London and Thames valley. Thank you UoE for giving me support, knowledge, inspiration, priceless experience and new friends!

Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

I continue doing things that I am passionate about and the use my knowledge that I used to gain during my postgraduate program in the UoE.

Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?

UoE triathlon club, UoE volleyball club and UoE postgraduate society.

What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?

Academic staff, societies and way of communication. Most enjoyable and challenging time is my dissertation delivery- I was inspired by my supervisor Pr Albert Chen!

What did you enjoy most about studying here?

People, way of communicating.

Why did you choose to study at Exeter?

Amazing place in UK and the best scientific school as a Center for Water Systems (CWS) in the UoE.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

All subjects are relevant to what I am doing now.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Fight with procrastination. Do your best now and have a great celebration after.

What are your plans for the future?

Wish to stay in the UK but with all these Brexit issues I think I’ll need to move to Europe to use my water expertise there.

Joju Solar. After graduating from Exeter I initially did some part time jobs in order to save up some travel money…then Covid happened! This caused a big rethink of my next steps and I ended up working in a Covid-19 laboratory for the majority of all the lockdowns, moving to London for a couple of years. For the past 2 and a half years I have completely switched industries and now work in the renewable energy sector as a Senior Project Manager for a solar and battery installation company. I am based in Oxford where one of our two offices is located.
