Can you give us an overview of what you have done since you completed your research degree?

Worked in a number of higher education institutions.

How did you become interested in the area you work in?

Natural progression from PhD.

How did you find opportunities in the area you work in and how did the recruitment process work?

Applied for posts advertised and got some of them.

What does your current role involve?

My last post was Deputy Vice-Chancellor of AA university.

What skills are involved in your work and how did your research degree help develop them?

Early lecturing jobs included research. Later posts were managerial.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Getting the best out of people and budgets.

What are the challenges in your role?

Expanding opportunities on reducing resources.

What has surprised you about your role?

Very little.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Understanding people.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Make sure that you understand what universities have now become.

What are your plans for the future?

Keep active in retirement.
