What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?
Since leaving Exeter I have worked in community sport for charities and not for profits. As a charity development office for Exeter City Community Trust, I lead on the design and delivery of various health and wellbeing programmes and mentored students as part of the charities higher education programmes. More recently I worked as a football development officer, leading on the disability strategy at Essex FA, working to grow that side of the game along with women and girls football in priority places. I have experience in grant writing, project management, mentoring and programme delivery.
Why did you choose this career? And what do you enjoy most about your work?
I like working with people, seeing impact first hand, and helping others!
Please tell us if you were a member of any societies, groups or sports clubs?
I was a Football club committee member and tennis club casual.
What did you enjoy most about your programme and what was the biggest highlight?
Psychology final year studies – delving into research as part of the final year project. Learning from brilliant researchers & people!
What did you most enjoy about studying here?
The place, the people and opportunities it presented.
Why did you choose to study at Exeter?
Location – beautiful part of the country and great psych course. The students on the open day were really energetic too.
What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?
Ironically, everything I did alongside my degree helped me get to where I am. Committee, part time work outside (relevant to course), get proper stuck in with the Exeter community!
What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?
Get stuck in to things outside of university, or external to your course, committee, work, build up the CV! Most people leave with a degree, not all leave with experience outside of this.
What are your plans for the future?
Continue in the health and wellbeing sector and progress.
