Can you give us an overview of what you have done since you completed your research degree?

Teaching undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) modules, supervised PhD students (7 Completion), Internal Examiner for 6 PhD students, External Examiner to 2 PhD candidates, and Chair in PRP (PhD Progress Review Panel). I was also a link tutor for Coventry Cairo Campus, Cairo, Egypt.

How did you become interested in the area you work in?

I am interested in exploring new ideas in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

What does your current role involve?

Teaching UG and PG modules, supervising UG and PG dissertation projects. Also teaching at Coventry University, Hainan Campus, China.

What skills are involved in your work and how did your research degree help develop them?

Programming. My PhD work was in Parallel Programming, introducing new models for Parallel Computing.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Teaching and understanding how students learn and conduct their research.

What are the challenges in your role?

Have to keep up-to-date with the development in Computer Science and in Artificial Intelligence.

What has surprised you about your role?

The fast involvement in computing technologies.

Did you engage in any additional activities or roles (i.e. organising conferences, entering PGR showcase, being a PGR Rep etc.) during your research degree, and how did these help prepare you for a career beyond academia?

Yes. I am reviewer for the Journal of Supercomputing, (Springer Verlag) and FGCS (Future Generation in Computer Systems, Elsevier). I was also a Guest Editor for Journal of Grid Computing (Springer Verlag).

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Research.

What are your plans for the future?

To write a book in Computer Science disciplines.
